How the calculator works: an example

Example: you're buying an LG washing machine at AO for £519.00, and you have a 10% off code. If a 40% sale is on and the code also works on sale items, the sale takes off £207.60 and the code a further £31.14, so the basket drops to £280.26: a saving of £238.74. Press “Fill in the example” to see it worked out, or put in your own basket, sale and code. Whether a code works on sale items depends on its terms.

How to use an AO discount code

  1. Add your items to your basket on ao.com.
  2. Find the discount code box at the bottom of your basket, type or paste the code and click Apply. AO says a code must be entered in the basket: it can't be added later.
  3. Check the saving shows in your order summary before you go to checkout. Only one code works per order, and a code can't be used together with AO's Price Match Guarantee.
  4. If a code is refused, check its expiry and look for an extra space (codes aren't case sensitive). Multi-buy codes need every qualifying product in the basket, a code shown on a product page covers only that product, and unique codes from emails or My Account work once, online only.

AO shopping FAQs

Is there an AO voucher code or promo code?

AO says its discount codes appear on its homepage and on the product pages they apply to. On 14 Oct 2026 they included SAVE40: £40 off when you spend over £599 on any two large appliances in the same order. Enter a code in the box at the bottom of your basket; only one code works per order, and codes can't be combined with AO's Price Match Guarantee.

Is there an AO discount code for your first order?

AO may send new customers a code when they register for My Account. Its help pages describe a £10 code that works on an individual item of £299 or more (not a basket worth £299), and the code carries its own expiry date.

Why isn't my AO discount code working?

AO says to check the code's expiry date and look for an extra space if you pasted it; codes aren't case sensitive. Only one code works per order, it must be entered in the basket (it can't be added later), and it can't be used with a price match.

Will AO price match another shop's discount code?

Yes: AO says it matches the same product's online price at UK retailers, including their discount codes and sales, but not membership, in-store-only or trade prices. Orders placed from 12 October 2026 can claim until 23 December; otherwise you have 7 days from delivery.
