Standard UK home delivery is £5.50 for orders from the National Gallery Shop. Delivery usually arrives within five working days, although the Shop tries to get things to you sooner when possible. The delivery cost is shown at checkout and may differ for oversized or specially supplied items. The price shown at purchase is the amount you’ll pay.
The Shop offers FREE UK delivery on orders over £50, with certain exceptions noted on product pages. Free delivery doesn’t apply to items sent directly from suppliers, such as custom prints, epic posters, cushions, lampshades and deck chairs. The free-delivery threshold applies to standard eligible items and will be applied automatically at checkout. Top tip: check each product page to see if an item is excluded from the free-delivery offer.
International standard delivery is approximately £25.50, though the exact charge is calculated by destination and weight at checkout. The Shop aims to deliver international standard parcels within 15 working days, but times can vary by country. International customers are responsible for any local taxes and customs duties not included in the quoted shipping price. The exact delivery charge will be confirmed before you complete payment.
Custom prints carry separate delivery charges because they’re sent directly from a partner supplier. For the UK, unframed custom prints are estimated at £8.00 and framed prints at £12.00. For international delivery the estimates are £14.00 for unframed and £30.00 for framed prints, though costs may vary with destination and weight. Custom-print delivery charges aren’t included in the Shop’s free-delivery threshold and will be shown on the product page or at checkout.
Large items such as deck chairs and epic posters are dispatched separately and are excluded from the free-delivery offer. The Shop gives estimated delivery times of around 5 - 7 working days for these items, and the checkout displays an estimated delivery price which may include surcharges. The Shop will contact you if an address attracts an extra delivery surcharge. We recommend providing an address where someone will be available to receive these deliveries.
Click & Collect is a FREE service but currently limited in scope. The FREE next-day Click & Collect service is only available for items bought with Gallery tickets via the Gallery website; Click & Collect for other online-shop purchases is currently unavailable while the service is being improved. When available, orders placed before 5pm are ready for collection from the Getty shop from 10am the next day, and orders placed after 5pm are ready from 2pm the following day. You’ll need photo ID and the order confirmation to collect, and orders must be collected within 15 days unless other arrangements are agreed.
The Shop accepts returns if you cancel the contract within 14 days of receiving the goods. If you cancel before dispatch you’ll receive a full refund within 14 days of notifying the Shop. When returning after receipt, goods must be returned in the same condition and you’re responsible for return postage unless the item is faulty. Refunds for qualifying returns are processed within 14 days of notice or within the timescales set out on the Returns and Terms pages.
Please notify the Shop’s team before returning an item and include a copy of your order confirmation with the return. Once the Shop has received the returned goods and order confirmation, it will usually process a refund within five working days. Items must be returned in pristine condition and in original packaging to qualify for a full refund. If returned goods are not in fully resellable condition the Shop reserves the right to refuse a refund or deduct up to 20% from the refund amount.
Certain products are excluded from the standard returns policy and can’t be returned once purchased, unless faulty. The Shop specifies that pierced earrings, custom prints, deck chairs, epic posters and cushions cannot be returned or cancelled once bought, unless they’re faulty. Made-to-order and personalised items are also non-returnable unless defective. Check product pages and the Returns Information page before ordering bespoke or personalised items.
If a returned item qualifies for a full refund, the Shop will also refund the standard delivery charge you paid to receive the item. You remain responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods unless the return is due to a defect or an error by the Shop. For defective goods agreed with the Shop, return postage costs will be refunded. Any non-standard or additional delivery surcharges may be handled on a case-by-case basis.
If goods are returned as defective, the Shop will inspect the items to decide entitlement to a refund or replacement. If the Shop agrees the goods are faulty, it will either refund the full amount including original delivery charges within 14 days of receiving the returned goods, or replace the goods FREE of charge. The Shop may also reimburse reasonable return postage costs for defective items. Notify the Shop immediately if an item arrives damaged or incorrect so it can be sorted quickly.
Prices shown on the Shop’s website include VAT and are displayed in UK Pounds Sterling. The Terms and Conditions confirm that listed prices include any applicable UK value‑added tax. International customers should note that local import taxes and duties aren’t included and remain the recipient’s responsibility. Availability and prices are subject to change and the price shown at checkout is the amount payable.
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes or import charges imposed by their country when ordering from the Shop. These charges aren’t included in the Shop’s delivery prices and, if unpaid, may delay or result in the shipment being destroyed by local authorities. The Shop advises checking with your local customs office about potential restrictions and charges. The National Gallery Shop won’t reimburse local import duties paid when returning items from overseas.
Alcohol purchases require an adult signature on delivery and proof of age where necessary. The Shop will only deliver alcohol to recipients aged 18 or over and may refuse delivery or cancel an order if there’s uncertainty about age. Alcohol is delivered via courier and requires a signature on receipt. The Terms page notes that selling alcohol to someone under 18 is an offence under the Licensing Act 2003 and the Shop may request ID to verify age.
The Shop’s Terms and Conditions refer to statutory consumer rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and related legislation. Key timeframes include up to 30 days for an immediate refund if goods are faulty, up to six months to be entitled to a full refund if a repair or replacement can’t be carried out, and potential rights up to six years for faults arising later. These statutory rights sit alongside the Shop’s own returns and refunds procedures. If in doubt, check the Terms page or contact customer services for help.
